Fresh facts have emerged why the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has suspended the selection process of the new Vice Chancellor for University of Ibadan (UI) for the second time within four months.

Following the plethora of petitions against the process allegedly sponsored by a former vice chancellor of the university, the Minister of Education had ordered the indefinite suspension of the council meeting and process of selecting the new vice chancellor.

The minister had earlier alleged that the process of selecting the new VC for the university had been compromised but sources disclosed that the process was suspended because some forces were allegedly bent on ensuring that a particular candidate clinched the plum job.

Sources said the process of appointing a substantive VC was being deliberately delayed by the Ministry of Education till after the end of the tenure of the current Pro-Chancellor and Council Chairman, Mr. Joshua Waklek and some members representing the Federal Government and Ministry of Education at the council by May 9, this year.

It was gathered that Waklek had refused all tactics by politicians to politicise the process and skewed the process in favour of the preferred candidate of a former VC and the minister.

Another source said the impasse was caused by two brothers from Ilesha, Osun State, both of whom had at one point occupied the post of the vice chancellor of the institution. While one draws his strength from the university community, the other has the listening hears of the politicians.
