Wike brings back Legacy 600 Aircraft abandoned in Germany 

Eight months after Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, alleged that one of the state-owned Legacy 600 aircraft was flown to and abandoned in Germany since 2012 by the former administration led by Chibuike Amaechi, he (Wike) returned from Germany with the aircraft.

He disclosed that over 3m Euros was spent to repair and retrieve it. Speaking after the aircraft landed, yesterday afternoon, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, Wike described the eventual return of the asset as a reality and not mere politics.

Rivers women and youths staged cultural displays to celebrate the return of the aircraft. Wike claimed the immediate past administration flew the aircraft to Germany, without any record of it made available to his administration.

“To the glory of God, the plane is back and Rivers people can see, Nigerians can see, it is not that we are playing politics. All we are saying, we never knew, nobody told us until we got intelligence that we have this asset somewhere.”

He recalled that the aircraft was purchased by Dr. Peter Odili’s administration to serve the interest of Rivers people, but was abandoned with the General Atomics Aerotec in Munich, Germany since 2012.

Wike, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, said: “I am so elated that at the end of the day, all of our struggles are not in vain. I thank Rivers people for their support. I thank the Rivers State House of Assembly for the support. I thank the Executive for the support.” 

The Chairman, Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, Dandeson Douglas Jaja, lauded the governor for not allowing the state property to get lost in Europe.

Former presiden0ts of the Nigerian Bar Association, Onueze Okocha and Okey Wali, said the governor had proven his determination to defend the interest of the state.
