To address the challenges facing traders in Rivers State, the governor, Nyesom Wike, has promised to complete the second phase of Mile One market, in Rumuwoji, Port Harcourt.

To address the challenges facing traders in Rivers State, the governor, Nyesom Wike, has promised to complete the second phase of Mile One market, in Rumuwoji, Port Harcourt.

The market has witnessed series of fire incidents, which forced traders to trade under canopies and makeshifts stalls.

The first phase of the market, which contains 1,000 stalls and other basic amenities, was awarded by the former governor Celestine Omehia at N3 billion and was completed by former governor Chibuike Amaechi.

The stalls were allocated to the traders whose shops were within the area the first phase complex was erected before the inferno. The traders whose shops were in the axis of second phase are still displaced.

Last year, Wike laid the foundation for the second phase of the popular market, which according to him is in fulfillment of his electoral promise. He said his government is working to complete the second phase in order to address the challenge of street trading in the area.

He spoke after inspecting the ongoing construction of the Mile 1 Market and Health Centre at Agip area.
