Militants Threaten To Bomb NDDC, Others

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has called on the Niger Delta Development Commission  (NDDC) to focus on the development of the region, instead of being involved in partisan politics.

Meanwhile, a militant group, the Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusader (NDRC), said rather than bomb pipelines, it would henceforth target federal agencies in the region. Wike told the governing Board of the NDDC, led by the chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma Egba, when they visited him at the Government House, Port Harcourt, yesterday that it will be counterproductive if NDDC continues to operate like a political party. The governor observed that development in the Niger Delta has been stunted because of the politicization of the activities of NDDC, which makes it difficult for the commission to focus on its core mandate.

He regretted that the immediate past NDDC leadership never related with the Rivers state government on developmental issues. On his part, Ndoma- Egba, who was accompanied by the Managing Director, Mr. Nsima Ekere and other Board Members, said the new board would change the narrative of the NDDC by making the commission functional and responsive to the needs of the Niger Delta, as it may have fallen short of the expectations of the people.

Furthermore, NDRC spokesperson, Izon Ebi, disclosed that they would target federal agencies saddled with the responsibility of developing and empowering the Niger Deltans; NDDC, Niger Delta Ministry and the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority. The group explained that it was wrong for Ndoma Egba to blame lack of development in the region on activities of militants. “In seven days’ time, Victor Ndoma Egba and his board will know that we are professionals that do not only know how to bomb pipe lines but can also bomb buildings.”
