With a debt durden of N500b, Delta APC chieftain accuses Okowa of mortgaging state

With a debt burden of well over N500 billion and rising, an All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain in Delta State, Chief Osiobe Okotie has accused Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa mortgaging the future of Deltans through excessive borrowing, down in 2019, saying the People’s Democractic Party, PDP led Government have not done well for Deltans in the last 18 years.

Okotie who spoke when he played host to the State APC women and youth leaders and three senatorial and 25 local government women and youth leaders in his residence lamented that it was cause for great concern that the state government receives so much from the federation account without commensurate infrastructure and human capital development to show for it.

he is in the Governirship race to add value to the lives of all Deltans.

Okotie, a native of Agbarho in Ughelli North Local council of the State added: “The state is owing over N500 billion and I wonder how this debt will be paid.”

He blamed the high crime rate on unemployment of the youths and the 18 years maladministration of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Okotie, a governirship hopeful said he was in the race “to right the wrongs”, lamenting that “the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC is dead under the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration.

He alleged that the commission is being starved of funds whereas it is entitled to 50 percent of the 13 percent oil derivation fund that is acrued to the State on monthly basis.

While promising to build modular refineries if elected governor in 2019, he said he would partner foreign investors with a view to diversifying the economy of Delta and create jobs for the unemployed youths.

Okotie added that he would run a transparent government that will be accountable to the people of the state, saying “I will soon come out with a template on how I will govern the state.”
