Woman files contempt charge against EKEDC MD over court disobedience
A septuagenarian woman, Fozia Zabadne, 79, has prayed a Magistrate court sitting in Apapa, Lagos State to commit the Managing Director of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and one Mr. Titus to prison for a term of six months over alleged disobedience to a court order.
The court had ordered an interim injunction restraining the EKEDC from harassing, intimidating, embarrassing, coercing, and threatening the claimant (Zabadne), her workers, and customers at her place of residence and business at No. 81A, Marine Road, Apapa GRA, Lagos pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice filed in the suit by her counsel, Chief Malcom Omirhobo.
The court also restrained the defendant (EKEDC), its servants, agents, and/or privies from the claimant Apapa Branch, Head Office, or any other branch from disconnecting the electricity supply to the claimant’s residence and place of business.

But despite the said orders, the claimant (Zabadne) through her counsel accused the defendant (EKEDC) of willfully disobeying and neglecting to comply with the said orders of the Court by going ahead to cut the electricity supply to her house.
She argued that EKEDC and its MD’s actions constitute contempt of court and that the court should intervene to maintain its dignity and authority.
Zabadne further wants the court to impose a fine of N300,000 on EKEDC, a fine of N200,000 on the Managing Director of EKEDC, and a fine of N100,000 on Titus.
The case has been adjourned to February 4, for the report on the service of originating processes.
