Some workers went into jubilation as President Muhammadu Buhari approved the redeployment of nine permanent secretaries in the Federal Civil Service.

Specifically, the announcement that one of the permanent secretaries was redeployed sent workers into jubilation yesterday.

In a memo dated July 28, 2016, the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation directed the affected permanent secretaries to complete the handover process by Friday, August 5, 2016.

Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita, who signed the memo that was also sent to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA), did not give reasons for the decision.

The memo, explained that Dr. Habiba Lawal was moved from the Ministry of Science and Technology to Ecological Funds Office in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; Dr. Abbas Mohammed was moved from the Ecological Funds Office to the Ministry of Solid Minerals; Mr. Istifanus Fukur from the Solids Minerals Ministry to Police Service Commission; Mrs. Adamu Belo was deployed from the Ministry of Women Affairs to Health.

Dr. Shamaki Amina, who has had a running battle with the Senior Staff Association of the Ministry of Health over allegations of incompetence and corruption, was moved to the Ministry of Women Affairs.

The memo also stated that Mrs. Belema Wakama Asifieka was moved from the Ministry of Niger Delta to the Ministry of Science and Technology, while Mr. Alo Nwankwo left his office at the Economic Affairs Office to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs. Mrs. Rabi Jimeta retained her position at the Ministry of Water Resources. The same for

Dr. Shade Yemi-Esan of the Ministry of Education and Dr. Clement Illoh of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Other Permanent Secretaries in list of 36 permanent secretaries also retained their positions.

The redeployment of Dr. Shamaki sent many of the workers at the Health Ministry into jubilation.

An official of the senior staff association told The Guardian that the Ministry looks forward to a fresh breath of air in the Ministry.

Workers had last May shut down the Ministry over allegations of corruption and other misconduct. They shut down power supply, switched off the elevators and insisted that the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shamaki stay away from the Ministry until she is redeployed.
