Badenoch condemns ‘tolerance’ of radical Islamism

Kemi Badenoch condemned the ‘tolerance’ of radical Islamism following the Manchester synagogue attack during her speech at the Tory conference. She criticised protests described as ‘carnivals of hatred’ against Israel, claiming slogans like ‘globalise the Intifada’ target Jewish people for violence.

This comes as ministers aim to close the gap in the law after a wave of pro-Palestine demonstrations resulted in 492 arrests over the weekend. Shabana Mahmood introduced new laws that grant police increased powers to manage frequent protests, especially those occurring on Saturdays.

Badenoch stressed the urgent need for action against unchecked extremism and stated, “We can’t tolerate values hostile to our own. In Britain, you can express your beliefs, but you cannot turn our streets into theatres of intimidation.” She affirmed her support for the Jewish community, saying, “You are part of the fabric of Britain.”

She also criticised Labour and Reform for promoting ‘identity politics,’ stating, “I am more than just black, female, and Conservative. I am British.”

In an interview with Sky News, Badenoch outlined plans to empower police to impose restrictions on protests based on their frequency, highlighting existing gaps in the law that she will address immediately.
