Family requests return of Khashoggi’s remains

As investigators lean towards the theory that the body of Jamal Khashoggi was dissolved in acid, his sons have requested for the return of their father’s body. They made the appeal yesterday during the first interview they granted the media since their father was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, a month ago.

Salah and Abdullah Khashoggi said the past weeks had been very difficult and full of uncertainty for the entire family, adding that without their father’s body, they would be unable to grieve.

Abdullah Khashoggi said: “I really hope that whatever happened wasn’t painful for him, or it was quick. All what we want right now is to bury him in Al-Baqi (cemetery) in Medina (Saudi Arabia) with the rest of his family.” His brother, Salah, added: “I talked about that with the Saudi authorities and I just hope that it happens soon.”

The Khashoggi’s family is troubled by the lies that have sprung up since the incidence, saying their father had been misunderstood and intentionally misrepresented for political reasons.

Salah described his father as a moderate person, who was liked by everybody. “He had differences and common values with everyone, a happy person and an amazing father.“I see a lot of people coming out right now and trying to claim his legacy and unfortunately some of them are using that in a political way that we totally don’t agree with.”
