The Polish Consul in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on Friday said it met with the detained University of Warsaw students in Nigeria.

Poland Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski disclosed this in a statement shared on his X account.

“The Polish Consul in Abuja met with the detained Polish students. They are staying at the hotel,” Sikorski said.

“We are seeking clarification of their legal situation. I thank the Nigerian authorities for their cooperation so far.

“The families are being kept informed; they will soon receive a photo from the meeting,” the Deputy Minister said, adding that no charges have been brought against them.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had issued a statement that a group of six students and a lecturer from the Faculty of African Studies at the University of Warsaw who were detained in the city of Kano in northern Nigeria “are doing well and are in good condition”.

Sikorski said the consular service will continue to work to clarify the matter as soon as possible and bring it to a positive conclusion.
