The Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), yesterday, urged security agents in the country to fish out the killers of the younger brother of Omoyele Sowore, Olajide, who was murdered in Edo State at the weekend.

Secretary-General of the Council, Dr. Kunle Olajide, who spoke with The Guardian, condemned the killing, decrying the unabating spate of insecurity in the country.

He stressed the need for the state and citizens to collaborate with security agents to stem the tide of insecurity.

Olajide said: “The killing of Olajide Sowore is still part of insecurity in the country. It is a frightening situation. The death of the promising young man is a great loss to Nigeria. One hopes that it is not an attempt to get at Sowore.

“State and citizens must collaborate with security agents to curb insecurity in the land. There must be steps by the government to generate employment.”

ALSO, Ekiti State Governor and Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has urged the police to fish out the killers of Olajide Sowore.

Fayemi, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, described the incident as “unfortunate and saddening” and urged the police authorities to fish out the killers and rescue the abducted five.

He said: “The death of the younger Sowore and indeed several other killings of innocent citizens is a source of concern to me.

“It is time the security agencies, with the support of the citizens, put an end to this unnecessary wastage of precious lives.

“My sincere condolences to the Sowore family, especially the brother of the deceased, Omoyele Sowore.”

The governor, therefore, urged the leadership of security agencies in the country to step up efforts at putting an end to insecurity across the states.

He also implored the citizens to come up with relevant information on presence/activities of agents of violence in their localities.

MEANWHILE, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has asked the Edo State Police Command to stop advocating for the alleged armed Fulani kidnappers who killed Olajide Sowore in Okada axis of the state.

In a statement, yesterday, in Abuja by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, HURIWA urged total reforms of the Nigeria Police Force and the establishment of state police to stop terrorists, kidnappers and armed herdsmen from over-running the entire country.
