The group said that if young people, who constitute a higher percentage of registered voters don’t participate in the electioneering process, their numerical strength would not transform into political power to influence any outcome.
Director of Programmes, Yiaga Africa, Cynthia Mbamalu, who stated this at a four-day community organising training in Lagos, appealed to young people to take advantage of the extension of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter’s registration exercise to get registered and be able to vote in the upcoming elections.
YIAGA Africa, in collaboration with UKAID, at the training advocated for youths to be fully engaged in the political activities of the country.
It stressed that to effect change in the society, youths should engage their communities, mobilise young people to register and vote in the upcoming elections and also support young candidates contesting for elective posts.
Mbamalu further decried the role money has played in elections, saying that it prevents capable hands from participating in governance.
