Yobe unfolds post-insurgency recovery plans

The Yobe State Government yesterday unfolded “post-insurgency and recovery plans” for stakeholders and donor agencies in the humanitarian community after discussing efficient means on humanitarian coordination and deliveries in the state.

Addressing the Summit yesterday in Damaturu, themed, ‘Consolidating Humanitarian Recovery Plans,” meant for the returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in camps and liberated communities, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam said: “This post-insurgency Summit is a positive step towards having a master plan of intervention that could mitigate wastages and duplications of efforts of realising direct impacts on all the Boko Haram victims in Yobe.”

He said a streamlined and coordinated intervention in humanitarian support and socio-economic assistance would maximise the desired impacts on victims of insurgency and terrorism.

Gaidam added that the plan of action could also reduce wastage and ensure value for money, adding: “This informs the need to have an intervention master plan, such that no felt need of the victims shall be left out or assistance of any agency or organisation discounted.”

On humanitarian crises, he said: “Given the monumental humanitarian crises before us, no government, agency or non-governmental organisation, however endowed, can handle the situation alone.

“This prompted the convening of this Summit by all stakeholders, including traditional and religious leaders, council chairmen, civil society organisations and faith-based organisations.”

Deputy Governor and Chairman of the state Committee on Reconstruction, Resettlement and Rehabilitation of victims of insurgency, Abubakar Aliyu, said the committee had been facing conflicting demands due to lack of coordination and understanding among the victims and humanitarian donor agencies.He said a comprehensive document was expected to be produced and would encompass the various sectors of interventions.
