Yoruba group charges youths to vote for viable, energetic candidates
A South-West socio-political group, Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum, has urged youths to vote for viable, young and energetic candidates in the coming 2023 general elections.
President of the group, Akin Malaolu, in a statement, yesterday, said that the requirements became necessary to change Nigeria and her misfortunes.
“This is not the time for tribal excitement or foolishness.
“Our advice as a leadership forum is for youths to focus on Nigeria and improve her conditions by voting for younger candidates at the polls.”
“We must recognise that half of the population of Nigeria is less than 18 years old. This means that there is a need to invest in human capital development if the country must stand up again. The future of Nigeria depends on the ability of the younger people to go to school, make schools safe and as well as ensure that fewer children are out of school.
“These daunting task cannot be left in the hands of old leaders. Nigeria is weak and we must protect her before she falls completely into the hands of terrorists and tribal warlords.”
The forum also noted that to simplify what the age disparity in percentage stands for in economic development, it means that the productive population of Nigeria is over 68 per cent of the entire population of the country. The remaining 32 per cent are below 14 years and above 60 years.
