Yoruba Self-determination Groups chide Obasanjo, Adebanjo for stance against Tinubu
• Condemn Call For Interim Government
• Seek Restructuring Of Nigeria
The Coalition of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, yesterday, condemned the call for an interim government in some quarters after the victory of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presidential election.
In a statement in Ibadan, signed by the Secretary-General of Coalition of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Dr. Steve Abioye, they chided former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Chief Ayo Adedanjo for standing against Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election.
Abioye said the likes of Pa Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Obasanjo could not claim to be speaking for Yoruba race.
He said: “The Coalition of Yoruba Self-determination Groups has noted the events in the polity in the last four weeks, as regards the presidential election outcome in which an illustrious son of Yoruba land, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu emerged as president-elect.
“We, however, condemn in its entirety the position of some Yoruba elders and leaders, who are unnecessarily clamouring for interim government. The likes of Pa Ayo Adebanjo and Chief Obasanjo have no clout in Yoruba land for them to claim to be speaking for Yoruba race.
“Although this coalition, which is made up of several pan-Yoruba groups doesn’t believe primarily in any election in Nigeria without restructuring, especially restructuring along the line of regional federalism, we however, hope strongly that the incoming regime of Tinubu will do the needful along this line.
“We believe that if Nigeria is restructured, it will put an end to needless agitation by different ethnic groups and sections of Nigeria wanting to produce the president as the centre will no longer be attractive, since resource control would have been shifted to the federating units”.
