Nigerian leaders have been berated for failing to learn from horrible killings in the country.
ARCHBISHOP Emeritus of Abuja Catholic Diocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, said it was sad that what happened 18 years ago at the Port Harcourt International Airport, where 60 students of Loyola Jesuit College were roasted in the ill-fated Sosoliso plane crash has continued in several gateways across the federation.
The cleric observed that Nigerian leaders are rather interested in satisfying their selfish desires.
Onaiyekan, who spoke in Port Harcourt, at the weekend, noted that even angels cannot rule a nation where there is no trust, adding that whoever claims to be ruling Nigeria knows that getting the trust of the people is a big challenge.
He stated: “My suggestion is that they should accept the reality on ground, accept that they have a heavy trust deficit. and nothing is wrong with you admitting that things didn’t go so well.”
Chairman, Board of Governors of the school, Fr. Muoneme Maduabuchi, lamented: “This is a country, where people are taking the money meant for roads, hospitals, schools to build mansions for themselves.”
