Youths deplore alleged fresh herdsmen attacks in Delta State community
Abraka Youth Forum (AYF) has condemned the alleged fresh herdsmen attacks in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Council of Delta State. In a statement, the forum’s president, Matthew Ugherakpoteni Ogune, regretted that prevailing peace that returned to the area after last year’s killings had again been altered.
He urged the relevant authorities to swiftly halt the fresh onslaught, as it could worsen the region’s already fragile economic in the planting season.
Ogune said: “It is pathetic and unthinkable that this is happening again. Recall that Ethiope East (council area), especially Abraka and parts of Eku, has been suffering recurrent attacks since 2015. The current crisis has taken a more worrisome dimension, as these herdsmen seem to have acquired a new level of sophistication, because of the level of carnage they visited on the communities.”
The latest attacks, according to him, claimed seven lives. The group therefore urged government to be alive to its responsibilities by securing lives and property as well as bringing the perpetrators to book without delay.
