Lagos State Sector Commander, Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Babatunde Farinloye, has admonished drivers and other road users on the importance of observing traffic rules and regulations while on the roads, especially as the year winds down.
He made the call while on a visit to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Continent 3 Dominion Cathedral, Gowon Estate, Ipaja, Lagos, to share his ‘Gospel of Safety.’
Farinloye stressed the need to reorient people on the misconception that the ember months are usually accompanied by multiple road accidents, saying the months are not evil months.
“These months are usually associated with serious socio-economic activities by Nigerians. Besides, the raining season is also associated with visibility problems and tyre issues,” he noted.
The FRSC chief advised drivers to always observe traffic rules.
“They should follow the traffic rules and regulations. They should not over speed. They must have a water heater in their cars. They should also limit travelling during the night.
“We should not be blaming witches and wizards for road accidents during this ember months. And erring officers on the roads should be reported to the higher authority for prompt disciplinary action,” he said.
Addressing the challenges of Nigerians with obtaining driver licence, Farinloye noted that the issue of quacks has become a national embarrassment. He however urged drivers to “always deal with constituted authority instead of quacks” whenever there is a need to obtain or renew their driver licences.
