Yusuf orders probe into assault on female doctor in Kano

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed a full investigation into the altercation between a member of the state executive council and a female medical doctor.
The Governor demanded report of the investigation be submitted in 48 hours for necessary recommendations and action.
It was gathered that the state commissioner for Humanitarian affairs Hajiya Amina HOD allegedly assaulted a female doctor on core at the state’s own Murtala Muhammed Specialists Hospital.
Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran in a statement on Monday disclosed that a power panel of inquiry has been inaugurated to examine the development as directed by the Governor.
The panel is expected to submit their findings in two days, the Commissioner for health noted.
Meanwhile, the Kano branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has demanded the immediate removal of Kano State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, over an alleged assault on her member.
NMA, in a statement on Monday in Kano, issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the state government to relieve the commissioner of her duty while threatening to down tools at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, failure of the government to meet their request.
In a statement signed by the state chairman, Dr. Abdurrahman Ali, and secretary, Dr Ibrahim D. Muhammad, the MMA accused the commissioner of harassing a female colleague over the unavailability of a prescribed medication for her patient.

“The Commissioner’s actions are a misuse of authority. This assault undermines the integrity of the health sector and violates the ethical standards expected of public officials. Such behaviour puts healthcare workers at risk and disrupts essential medical services,” NMA said.
The association said it reached the decision after an emergency meeting where the NMA demanded the commissioner’s immediate dismissal, calling for increased staffing and better security measures at the specialist hospital.
The association also stated that the doctor was single-handedly managing multiple pediatric cases under challenging conditions, underscoring broader issues confronting the facility.
“Healthcare professionals should not have to work under threat or in fear. This action is to ensure that medical personnel are protected and that our work environment is safe.”
The association also appealed to Yusuf to intervene promptly, warning that failure to address their demands could lead to further disruptions in healthcare delivery.
“We call on the Governor to take swift action to prevent further harm to our healthcare system. Addressing these challenges is essential to improve the quality of care for our patients,” the NMA noted.
