Zamfara governor pledges judicial independence, swift justice delivery

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening judicial independence and ensuring the timely delivery of justice. Speaking at the opening of a capacity-building workshop for magistrates, registrars, and court clerks at the Zamfara State High Court complex in Gusau, the governor highlighted the critical role of the Judiciary in a constitutional democracy.

The workshop, which brings together judicial officers and stakeholders, serves as a platform to evaluate the Judiciary’s performance, address challenges, and set new goals. Governor Lawal commended the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu, for her exemplary leadership and dedication to upholding justice.

“The consistent commitment of Her Lordship to the dispensation of justice inspires confidence and increases trust in the Judiciary as a critical institution,” the governor said. “This administration stays fully committed to supporting the Judiciary in all its endeavours and will prioritise initiatives that enhance timely delivery of justice while safeguarding the independence of this noble arm of government.”

Governor Lawal emphasised the importance of the workshop in equipping judicial officers and staff with the necessary skills to meet public expectations. “Our people look up to you as the last hope for the common man in dispensing justice, fairness, and protection of their rights. Judicial officers and staff must be well prepared to meet these expectations, particularly in these challenging times,” he stated.

The governor also called for the automation of judicial processes to streamline operations, reduce delays, and promote transparency. He noted that embracing modern tools would create a robust and responsive judicial system. “Integrating technology into judicial operations will ensure speedy dispensation of justice and build a system that meets the needs of our people,” he added.

In a message of caution, Governor Lawal urged the Judiciary to remain vigilant against individuals whose actions may tarnish the institution’s reputation. “Identifying and addressing misconduct within the system is a shared responsibility that demands diligence, steadfastness, integrity, and commitment,” he said.
