Zamfara, Kano Win Big at Quranic Recitation Competition

The annual National Quranic Recitation Competition ended, yesterday, in Kano with contingents from Zamfara and Kano states emerging overall champions among hundreds of contestants that featured in the six different categories of the competition.


The grand finale of the 35th edition had drawn 17 contingents in the male section, who keenly contested in the highest category, which requires knowledge of memorisation and elucidation of the art and science of the Qur’an.

Muhammad Auwal Gusau from Zamfara State emerged victorious among 16 other state representatives, winning the cash prize of N2.5m donated by Kano State government.


By this feat, the 24-year-old 400 level student of Zoology at Usman Danfodi University, Sokoto is expected to represent Nigeria in the global Quranic competition in Saudi Arabia later in the year.

Nusaiba Shuiabu Ahmad, 20, representing Kano State emerged champion in a similar category for the female section with N2.5m cash prize from the host state government.
