The Zamfara State Government has expressed concern over resolving issues related to civil servants affected by the recent verification exercise in the State.
The assurance was given by the State Head of Service (HoS), Mallam Yakubu Sani Haidara, during a meeting with stakeholders and some of the affected workers, led by the State’s NLC chairman, Comrade Sani Haliru.
Yakubu praised the level of maturity and endurance shown by the affected civil servants throughout these months, urging them to exercise a little more patience as the State government would do everything possible to rectify their issues.
The Head of Service noted that their issues were not the first to be handled by the State government, saying that similar cases of some affected staff of the State’s College of Nursing and Midwifery, as well as some lecturers of tertiary institutions in the State, have now been resolved, noting that their outstanding salaries and arrears have been paid to them.
“Governor Dauda Lawal has done a lot for the well-being of Zamfara State civil servants, which includes implementation of N30,000 and N70,000 minimum wage, and provision of special allowances to all Permanent Secretaries and heads of government parastatals,” he added.
While commending the affected civil servants for the maturity shown in forwarding their complaints, Haidara, however, cautioned them not to take the law into their hands, assuring that every successfully verified worker will be paid accordingly.
Earlier, the leader of the affected civil servants, Nafi’u Bello Bature, who spoke through his secretary, Hassan Lawali, lamented that over 800 workers were affected by the verification exercise, struggling for more than six months without salaries, despite being verified by the second verification exercise’s committee.
Recall that the affected civil servants had stormed the State’s Ministry of Finance, locked the entrances, and protested the nonpayment of their salaries and allowances, calling on the State government to come to their aid.
