Zuma International Film Festival holds Dec 1 to 5 in Abuja

The Nigeria Film Corporation (NFC) has concluded arrangements aimed at hosting this year edition of Zuma International Film Festival which is scheduled to take place from December 1-5 in Abuja.

Its Managing Director, Dr. Ali Nuhu, who disclosed at a world press conference in Abuja, saying, since its debut in 1993, the Festival has become a living symbol of our creative pride, a celebration of the stories that define us as a nation.

Nuhu explained, “Our journey in sustaining Zuma has always been about ensuring that Nigeria’s creative voice is heard, respected, and invested in and also across the world, where film festivals and culture meet.

“From cinemas in Lagos to festivals in Berlin, Toronto, and Cairo. Our films have opened doors, challenged stereotypes, and proven that Africa’s creative strength is no longer a whisper, it is a roar. Through storytelling, we influence culture.

“Our industry will drive one of the most vibrant creative economies on the continent.The response to this year’s call for entries has been remarkable.

3,156 films have been submitted from Nigeria, India, France, China, South Africa, Egypt, the United States, Spain, Germany, Tunisia, Iran, and many others.

“This year’s theme, “Storytelling for Global Influence: Film as a Soft Power and Economic Force,” speaks directly to this mission. We chose it because Nigeria’s stories have travelled far. We’ll build understanding, participant will tell one story that Zuma has become a global home for storytellers.”

He however, commended the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa for believing in the power of the creative sector and she has been both reassuring and motivating them to go higher to the global arena.

Earlier, Festival Director, Mrs. Halima Oyelade expressed delight that the event will celebrate creativity and cultural revolution, adding that storytelling has been making the Zuma International Film Festival to exist in terms of identity, influence and diplomacy.
