A thank you and request letter
Sir: We would like to thank Governor Akinwunmi Ambode from the depths of our hearts for the rehabilitation of failed portions of the Ajah-Addo-Langbasa-Badore Road which began the other day. We are gladdened that the rehabilitation began just two weeks after one of us called on you to beam the brilliant light of your administration on this axis of the Lekki Peninsula which has been looking increasingly abandoned in recent months. Your swift reaction shows you are a responsive leader.
We are also delighted at the quality of work being carried out by the contracting firm. In the past, failed portions were merely patched which would fail less than a month later. We noticed a proper reconstruction of the worst spot, as considerable excavation has been carried out. Although we have yet to ascertain the extent of work which the contractor has been mandated to do, we would like to appeal that the rehabilitation should be extended to other failed portions of the road. These portions cause extensive traffic congestion, especially during rush hour.
Your Excellency, we would like to bring to your knowledge about one and a half kilometres of road linking First Unity Estate and Badore Village which was surveyed in 2012 by both the Ministry of Works and PW Ltd, but the contract has yet to be awarded. This is a most critical road. We have right now only one tarred road in our vast area, which was done when your Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ganiyu Johnson, was the Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure.
Any time a truck breaks down on the tarred road, movement in our area becomes impossible.
We would also like to call your attention to the abandonment of the almost completed Badore Jetty meant to transport people, goods and vehicles to Ikoyi. The completion of the jetty will ease traffic on not just the eight-kilometre Ajah-Badore Road, but also on Ikoyi-Victoria Island-Lekki-Epe Road, as thousands of people going through these places to the Mainland from our own end will take the water route which is shorter.
