Erratic power supply in UNILAG

Sir: It is no longer news to any student on the University of Lagos Campus that for some days, coupled into weeks, there has been a zero grading for power supply. This is a manifest in the epileptic state of power supply in the institution and indirectly, a hint on the shortage of water and some other power required services.

The school management in a memo a few weeks ago, pleaded with the students and directed the blame factor to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKDC). The management said power issue is a national phenomenon as it is infamously known by every Nigerian that our power status is down. A vital reason given for the unstable and inefficient power service on the campus is that the university currently relies on its generator which is only capable of handling 30% of the school’s demand.

Even on Monday morning, walkways that used to be busy with students hastily leaving for their faculties and the library were desolate as halls on the campus had inadequate water supply and as a result, students could not have their bath let alone going about their daily chores.

The authorities in charge of power in the university never ceased to apologise to students to be patient as efforts were being made to ensure that power supply in the institution would soon be a thing of the past.

The students, therefore, called on the Federal Government to ensure that power is restored or produce alternative power supply in the best possible manner and in no time at all.
