Sir: Actions come about through the thoughts that play in our minds from time to time. Just like the saying: Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. The heart of every man affects his/her behaviour, positively or negatively, as the case may be.

A sound conscience, not necessarily the law, should guide us in carrying out our everyday activities. One would find that whenever we do the right things as we ought to, we have and feel peace within us. But when we do not, without even being told by anyone, we feel a level of uneasiness in us.

Conscience is said to be the sense or consciousness of the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one’s own conduct, intentions, or character together with a feeling of obligation to do right or be good. Simply put, conscience can be defined as the moral sense of right and wrong, chiefly as it affects one’s own behaviour.

People with inactive consciences act in similar ways to the level of activeness of their consciences. The law is the last guide to our actions. When we fail to act in accordance to the right path our consciences point us towards, the law comes in to put us in the right path.

Corruption starts from the mind. Many a time, we have bad thoughts come into our hearts, but it is chanelling our thoughts in the right always, that will yield positive results in Nigeria. Most times, when we think positively, we most likely tend to act accordingly.

Transforming our thinking pattern to a good one is key to transforming our nation for the better. A lawyer who thinks that the only way he can become wealthy is by being crooked in his cases can never really be a good lawyer, until he changes his thoughts. Same goes for everyone in other professions and occupations. Most times, our success stems from the confidence we have in ourselves, our positive thoughts and our positive attitudes. Taking the lead to do the right things and not waiting for others to act rightly before we follow should be the watchword.

Everyone of us is important in building a better Nigeria. Show me an upright people, and I will show you a good and great nation or one in the making. When we individually determine to act rightly, and are persistent in ‘’doing it rightly’’, no matter how long it takes and what it costs, what follows is a good nation.

Good seeds produce good harvest.
