2026: Omoworare advocates renaissance in Osun politics

Former lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Babajide Omoworare, on Monday declared his interest to vie for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He said he was not bothered by anybody coming from outside Osun APC to contest the ticket, stressing that there is a need for a renaissance in the state’s politics to foster good governance and socioeconomic growth in all areas.

Speaking at the APC party secretariat located on the stretch of Akoda-Gbongan roads in Osogbo, Omoworare said, “I want to be the governor of Osun State because there is a need for an Osun renaissance.

“Politics and governance are not just about breakfast, lunch and dinner. Politics is about delivering the basic needs and amenities to the people, fixing infrastructure, and acting as catalysts for the economic renaissance of the people of Osun State.

“And I am prepared to do it, I’m schooled, and I’m tutored to do it. And I tell people all the time, I am a proud alumnus of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu School of Politics, Bourdillon campus. We are here because I want to be the governor of Osun State, and there is a need for me to come and formally inform the party. It is not a declaration. It is a notification of intention.

“There is a difference between notification of intention and declaration. I am here to notify the party that I intend to be the governor of Osun State, under the banner of our great party. In law, there are primary and secondary evidence. This is primary evidence. I did not learn from somebody else, I learnt from him,” he remarked.

Expressing optimism that he would win the election if he secures the APC ticket, Omoworare added, “I will win the election. People in my state are scared about the election. And I am not scared.”

He stated, “I am a five-star general by the grace of God. I have contested five times. I have not lost once. I was the Majority Leader of the Lagos House of Assembly when Asiwaju was the Governor of Lagos State. I contested and I won twice, and then I came to Osun.”
