The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has inaugurated a transition committee as part of its efforts to strengthen its structures in the state.

The committee has been mandated to fill all vacant executive positions across the 23 local government areas and the 255 wards across the state.

Additionally, the committee is expected to report its activities to the State Secretariat of the party within 14 days and be held accountable for its actions.

The committee members are Philimon Kure, ADC from Zone 3 to serve as Chairman; Muktar Isa Hazo, SDP (Member) Zone 1; Muhammed Dauda Haskiya, SDP (Member) Zone 1; Kabiru Ajuji, APC (Member) Zone 1; Zulaihat Abdul Kareem, ADC (Deputy Chairman) Zone 1.

Other members of the committee also include Ibrahim Adamu Sarki, PDP (Member) Zone 2; Nazifi Jibrin Muhammad, PDP (Member) Zone 2; Haruna Dogo Mabo, NNPP (Member) Zone 2; Isah Dan Maryam, PRP (Member) Zone 2; Isaac Auta Zankai, SDP (Member); Wilson Iliya Yange, PDP (Member); and Simon Na Allah, LP (Member).

Ibrahim Musa ADC from Zone 2 is expected to serve as the Committee’s Secretary.

Addressing the committee members shortly after the inauguration, the state chairman of the party, Elder Patrick Ambut, urged them to be diligent and ensure that justice and fairness prevailed for all parties involved in the exercise.

Ambut, while citing Article 3.4 of the ADC Transitional Operation Guidelines, disclosed that the Article empowers the Committee to open the ADC to all and foster a sense of belonging.

“The challenge is enormous and demanding, and it requires dedication, justice, and fairness,” he said.

Meanwhile, part of the committee’s mandates include leadership auditing in all 23 LGAs of the state and wards, as well as aligning with the 2022 INEC-supervised Congress of the party.

The committee was also tasked with ensuring that appointments to vacant positions reflect a 40:60 ratio between the ADC and the coalition partners, pending the ratification of the expelled Members by the National Working Committee.

Further highlighting the ‘Terms of Reference’, Ambut emphasised that the principles of the ADC are non-negotiable, adding that all members must be duly registered with the ADC.

In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the Committee, Kure, explained that “the mandates of the committee are explicit”, adding that “it is a collective responsibility of all the stakeholders to build a stronger party that will reflect the interests of all.”
