The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Cross River State, has called on all eligible voters in the state to take advantage of the final days of the Continuous Voter Registration, CVR, exercise, describing it as critical to the future of democracy in the state.
Speaking at a press conference in Calabar, over the weekend, the State Chairman of IPAC, Engr. Effiom Edet Okon, said the remaining days of the CVR present a final opportunity for every eligible Cross Riverian to secure his or her place in history by registering to vote.
According to him, IPAC in collaboration with INEC, civil society, youth and women groups, traditional rulers, religious leaders and market associations, has mobilized across the 18 Local Government Areas to ensure that no eligible citizen is left behind.
He however declared that with the ongoing efforts, Cross River State is on course to record not less than 2.5 million votes in the 2027 General Elections.
“This is not merely a projection; it is a collective target that every stakeholder must work tirelessly to achieve as a higher voter population means a stronger democratic mandate, greater political relevance, increased national recognition, and a louder voice for Cross River State in determining the future of Nigeria”.
“Every Permanent Voter’s Card is a weapon against political apathy. Every registered voter is a defender of democracy. Every vote has the power to shape the destiny of Cross River State,” Okon added.
The Council commended Governor Bassey Otu for his support to democracy and political parties in the state citing the provision of an operational vehicle, a befitting Secretariat, and the governor’s open-door policy as practical demonstrations of inclusive leadership
