Says PDP Remains Strong Platform

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged political appointees in his administration who aspire to elective offices to publicly declare their ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Makinde gave the directive on Thursday during the Oyo State Government-organised 2026 Iftar programme at the frontage of the Banquet Hall, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
He assured aspirants of his support, provided their loyalty and commitment remain to the people and development of the state.
The governor advised all office seekers to use the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as their political platform.

He noted that the directive became necessary following claims that he had not “freed” aspirants in his government despite the election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Makinde said: “I have read on social media that I have not given the go-ahead to political appointees who have ambitions to hold different political offices, including the governorship seat. So, henceforth, you are free. Whoever wants to contest for any position, put up your billboards. And for those concerned about the PDP crisis, include the party’s logo on your billboard—nothing will happen.”
The governor used the occasion to appreciate the Islamic faithful in the state for their prayers, support, and cooperation with his administration, which he said have contributed to the state’s development and progress.

Earlier, guest lecturer Sheik Fadilat Muideen Onihantu commended Makinde for his leadership virtues and dedication to God, his family, and the people of the state.
In his opening remarks, the chairman of the event, Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland (Edo and Delta states), Alhaji Daud Makanjuola Akinola, thanked Makinde for consistently organising the Iftar since the inception of his administration and for his continuous support of the Muslim community. He called for more prayers for the state and the nation.
In his vote of thanks, Deputy Governor Barr. Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal praised Makinde and urged Muslims in the state to continue supporting the government.
