Members of the Plateau State House of Assembly have thrown their weight behind the reelection of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 poll.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Naanlong Daniel, who spoke to reporters at the national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, called on those angling for the presidency in 2027 to steer clear of Plateau State in their interests.
Flanked by 21 members of the House on the platform of the APC, he remarked that with the appointment of Prof. Yilwatda Nentawe as the national chairman of the party, all those aggrieved with the APC due to religious and primordial interests have buried their hatchets against the party.
“Concerning Mr. President’s chances on the Plateau, we don’t even know whether there is any other party other than the APC. So we believe that there is going to be a walkover on the Plateau,” he said.
“Any presidential candidate or aspirant who wants to contest under any party coming to Plateau is just coming to waste his resources because there is already a consensus on the ground that Mr. President is going to be the sole candidate. Plateau State will stand by Mr. President. So it is on his mandate that we are standing on the Plateau.”
He hinted that the APC is leaving no stone unturned to woo Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau state to the fold of the party.
The lawmakers who were at the party Secretariat to solidarise with Yilwatda on his emergence as the national chairman of the party also acknowledged that members of the House are enjoying a sound working relationship with the Governor Muftwang-led administration in the state.
He noted, “We are politicians. You watch as events unfold, as we continue to engage each other. Now, in respect to the issue concerning harmonious relationships. Now, there is this perspective out there that when members of the House of Assembly give a position to the government, there should be rancour.
“We are there for the people of Plateau State. We have a mandate to represent them and ensure that everything is in their best interest, as well as to attend to our various responsibilities. And I can tell you, we are working with the executive to complement every effort that the government is undertaking, especially where they are not getting it right. It is our responsibility, not necessarily to go to the media or raise issues, but to resolve your problems even without involving anyone knowing.”
Earlier on, Yilwatda charged the lawmakers to work in concert with party stalwarts in the state and the neighbouring states in the North in ensuring the victory of the party in the 2027 poll.
