AGAIN, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised fresh alarm over alleged moves by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government to frustrate another legitimate gathering of the opposition parties.
The opposition political parties are billed to hold a summit in Ibadan, Oyo state capital on Saturday.
Speakers at the event include Professor Chidi Anselm Odinkalu, professor Pat Utomi and other notable opposition figures and human rights activists.
The APC led federal government, early this month, denied the ADC access to the Eagle Square, velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National stadium Abuja and moved to frustrate them out of a public facility named Rainbow Event Center for their national convention in Abuja.
The ADC has also accussed the APC of using the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to destabilize the party and weaken it ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC currently, withholds recognition of the ADC led by former president of the Senate, David Mark and former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola as National chairman and National secretary respectively.
INEC’s position was based on it’s interpretation of Appeal Court’s stausquo ante-bellum.
The ADC has already approached the supreme court for the final verdict whether courts have jurisdiction over political party’s internal leadership affairs.
The Supreme court had earlier ruled that courts must stay away from internal affairs of political parties.
In an early morning tweet on his X handle ,the National Publicity Secretary of ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi said:
“We have uncovered plans by the ruling APC to disrupt the summit being held by the opposition parties in Ibadan, Oyo State, today, 25th of April.
“After denying us the use of venues in Abuja, they now will not leave us alone to hold our meetings.
“They say they are not scared, but they are behaving like people who are terrified. But we will not be deterred, because we are on the side of the Nigerian people.”
