ADC loses women leader, others to APC in Katsina

The Women Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) party in Katsina State, Amina Rumah, along with several female members of the party, have defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

Rumah announced their defection late Tuesday evening after she and the defected members held a meeting with Governor Dikko Radda that was said to have lasted several minutes.

She said they decided to leave the ADC due to what she described as neglect from the top members of the party, particularly from one of the party’s top leaders, Dr Mustapha Inuwa.

Inuwa, who was formerly the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) during ex-governor Aminu Bello Masari’s two-term tenure, had defected from the APC shortly after losing the party’s gubernatorial ticket to Radda.

Inuwa later had a short stint with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he served as the state Director General for Atiku Abubakar’s campaign team during the last presidential election.

However, Rumah lamented that she and the defected women had worked tirelessly for top party members since 2023 and had moved across all 34 council areas to promote their political interests.

She added that the neglect by the ADC party top members informed their decision to decamp to the ruling APC, where they hoped they would be treated better.

The former women leader added that they want to work closely with Governor Radda so that he can get elected for another term in office.

She said Governor Radda had performed excellently in the last two years of his administration, and that his good leadership qualities were what motivated them to join the APC and work for his re-election come the 2027 polls.

She assured that they would work towards sensitising the womenfolk across the state about the good leadership qualities of the governor, to get them to vote for him during the next general elections.

As of the time of this report, the ADC party in the state had not responded to inquiries on the matter, even as one of their members assured the party would react at the appropriate time.
