Adebule beats Obanikoro in APC Senatorial Primary

Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, yesterday, won the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary, beating Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.

• Orji Kalu Wins In Abia

Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Adebule, yesterday, won the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary, beating Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.

Three aspirants, Adebule, Obanikoro and former Lagos Commissioner for Transport, Kayode Opeifa participated in the exercise that was held in Agege Stadium, Lagos.

The exercise recorded 10 void votes. Opeifa got four votes, Obanikoro 119 votes and Adebule, who won the exercise got 424 votes.

The Senatorial Election Committee Chairman, Emeka Okafor, who announced the result, appreciated the delegates for the peaceful contest.

Also, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has been elected the APC senatorial candidate for Abia North. Kalu emerged unopposed at the Abia North APC senatorial primary held at Ohafia and thus, becomes the party’s candidate for the 2023 elections.

The Returning Officer, Chief Paul Onwuka, said Kalu polled a total of 777 to emerge unopposed, after his opponent, Mr. Fabian Okoronkwo withdrew for him.

Kalu, in his acceptance speech, attributed his victory to the people. He assured them of even more effective representation and commended Okoronkwo for his decision to drop his ambition in the interest of Abia North.

While the primary for Abia North was held, that of Abia Central District scheduled to hold at Umuahia was postponed to today.

following the announcement made by the Returning Officer Mr Izuchukwu that the stage was not set for the exercise, even as many delegates were accredited.

Two contestants namely: the serving member of the House of Representatives for Ikwuano/ Umuahia, Sam Onuigbo and former State Industry Commissioner, Chief Henry Ikoh were at the Chidiebere Park venue of the election.
