Ajimobi’s associate guns for Oyo state governorship seat
A close associate of the Oyo State Governor, Chief Abiola Ajimobi, and the senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District of Oyo State in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Fatai Buhari, has affirmed his decision to vie for the governorship seat of the state in the 2019 general elections.
Buhari made the affirmation while speaking on a local Radio station in Ibadan over the weekend.
The Ogbomoso- born Senator said his wealth of political experience and academic feat were part of many things that qualified him for the job of the number one citizen of the state.
If elected, Buhari promised to raise the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state significantly within the first 100 days in office without inflicting pains on the citizens.
The All Progressives Congress senator, who highlighted some of the ways to raise the states IGR, also said there would be job creation for graduates
The former commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy matter noted that the state Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, had raised the bar for governance in the state to a high level, warning that the state should not be allowed to deteriorate again as a result of bad leadership.
Reacting to clamour for zoning of the governorship ticket of his party to a particular senatorial district of the state, Buhari said it was unconstitutional and that the best candidate should be allowed to do the job.
He, however, said that he believed in party supremacy and that the decision of his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), would always be binding on him.
Buhari, from all indications, is one of the leading governorship aspirants on the platform of the APC in the state.
The chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Buhari is widely believed to have received the blessing of the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi.
At his second mega empowerment programme, held in Iseyin last month, Ajimobi described Buhari as the ‘best ever senator in the state’, adding that Buhari had performed better than himself as a senator.
In addition to the existing ICT centres in each of the thirteen local government areas of Oyo North Senatorial District, Buhari said that three new mega ICT centres would be commissioned next month in Ogbmoso, Iseyin and Saki.
Meanwhile, the Senator has paid the registration fees of six hundred SS3 students for the forthcoming Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Speaking on the reconciliation going on in his party, as led by its (party’s) national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Buhari , the amiable Senator said, the exercise would be successful because of the highly respected personality of Tinubu.
As the 2019 general elections approach, Buhari urged the electorate to vote for credible and competent candidates that would adequately represent their interests, so as to avoid a repeat of non-performance by some elected representatives.
