APC slams Tambuwal over claims of ‘national consensus’ against Tinubu

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has dismissed former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s claim of a “national consensus” to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing it as another failed attempt to rewrite the obvious truth.

The APC emphasised that Nigerians overwhelmingly supported Tinubu in the 2023 elections and continue to back his government.

Speaking on Sunday, the party’s spokesman, Oluseye Oladejo, said President Tinubu’s administration has shown a focus on performance and progress, citing economic stabilisation efforts and legacy infrastructure projects as evidence.

The party also questioned Tambuwal’s credibility, given recent allegations surrounding his tenure as Sokoto State Governor, and suggested he should prioritise clearing his name.

The APC further noted the challenges faced by the opposition in forming a united alliance, attributing it to incompatible ambitions, conflicting interests, and self-serving motivations among key figures.

He said: “Let it be known: there is no national consensus to unseat President Tinubu. What is emerging is a national consensus to support good governance—and when the time comes in 2027, Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in a leader who delivers.

“As for Tambuwal, he would do well to concentrate on clearing his name before the anti-graft agencies, which still have open questions regarding his tenure as Governor of Sokoto State. Recent revelations have not painted him in a flattering light, and no amount of press statements can launder the trail of allegations surrounding his stewardship.

“Even more amusing is the opposition’s endless talk of ‘consensus’ ahead of 2027. We watch with close interest as they struggle to build what will be, no doubt, an elusive alliance—sabotaged by their own greed, inflated egos, unbridled desperation for power, and self-righteousness. It will be a cold day in hell before the likes of Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Goodluck Jonathan, Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and others concede to one another.

“Their ambitions are incompatible, their interests conflicting, and their loyalty lies only in the direction of personal advantage. We, the ruling party, wait with bated breath as the comedy movie hits cinemas nationwide. Nigerians are watching too—popcorn in hand.

“In the meantime, the APC remains focused on delivering for the Nigerian people. While the opposition plays musical chairs and media politics, we are building roads, creating jobs, fixing power, reforming the economy, and laying the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria.”
