National chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, yesterday said the doors of the party are open for more governors to join, just as he dismissed allegations that the party is coercing civil servants to join the ruling party in the ongoing e-registration exercise.
Speaking on Channels Television programme Politics Today, Yilwatda said no incentives were given to any governor to join APC. He noted that most of the governors, who defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and others, did so on their voluntary volition because they discovered that since President Bola Tinubu came to power, the revenue base of the 36 states have increased and improved such that governors could now pay salaries, pensions and also settle their contractors with ease.
He said most states are now free from debts and that they now have more money to spend.
Contrary to insinuation by the opposition that APC is coercing people to join the party, Yilwatda said, “anybody who has the video or letter or any other evidence where APC has coerced anyone to join the e-registration should come with it.
The APC national chairman also waves off the propaganda that the ruling party is already jittery because of the calibre of people in the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He said, “Never. For every one strong personality the ADC has today, the APC has more than six of them.”
On the rumor that APC is planning to replace the incumbent vice president, Kashim Shettima, Yilwatda said there was nothing like that and also that he as a national chairman has not been penciled to replace the vice president.
He disclosed that millions of young people ranging from 18 to 25 years have been joining the APC across Nigeria, disclosing that he met with some of them in Katsine State recently.
He said the administration of President Bola Tinubu has improved on the national grids contrary to what he described as opposition propaganda. The opposition has been trying to use the national grid’s constant collapse to blackmail the government.
He said the government has been able to bring several universities, tertiary health institutions and communities off the national grid through independent power generation.
He however tasked the media to beam more lights on the activities of state governors and local government leaders on the need to provide certain infrastructural needs within their purview to the people. He said this is necessary because the states and local governments are now getting more allocations.
