APGA, AA condemn killing of Anambra election voter

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State continues to lament the killing of a voter named Hon. Richard Ibe from Ihie Village, Owerre-Ezukala in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Hon. Ibe was reportedly shot by an unidentified gunman shortly after casting his vote in the Saturday, November 8, 2025, governorship election, in which Governor Chukwuma Soludo secured a decisive victory.

Until his death, Hon. Ibe served as the Councillor representing Owerre-Ezukala Ward One at the Orumba South Legislative Council, where he also held the position of Legislative Leader.

Reacting to his brutal murder, the National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Mazi Opara, condemned the killing of the respected politician and called on the police to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to uncover the perpetrator of this heinous act.

He pointed out that the killing was the only major incident which occurred to distract the party from celebrating its victory at the just-concluded governorship election.

Also reacting to the incident, the Action Alliance (AA) governorship candidate in the poll, Ozo Japhet Nweke, bemoaned the killing of Hon. Ibe, saying he does not deserve the cruel nature of his death.

Nweke, who spoke after stating his intention not to file a petition against Soludo’s declaration, called on the police and other security operatives in the state to intervene urgently and ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice.

He observed that what happened at Orumba South Local Government Area on Saturday, November 8, 2025, during the gubernatorial election in the state remains totally condemnable by every law-abiding Nigerian.

Nweke said: “As far as I am concerned, the just-concluded guber election in Anambra State was peaceful, free of intimidation, harassment and vote buying as has been reported by the press. What happened at Orumba South was just an unfortunate incident.

“The election has come and gone, and the winner emerges. What is left for us, the losers, is to join hands with Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo to actualise his vision of making Anambra a livable and prosperous state in Nigeria. The election went peacefully. There was a large turnout of voters. There was electoral maturity during the voting process.

“From my personal assessment, there was no record of intimidation, harassment and vote buying. I didn’t witness any of the above-mentioned incidents in Awka and its environs, where I did cast my vote.

“I will not go to court to challenge the outcome of the election, because the process was remarkably credible, free and fair,” he declared.

Nweke, while congratulating Soludo for the victory, urged him to focus more attention on his second-term agenda, especially on security and job creation.
