SPEAKERS at Osun stakeholders’ conference held in Osogbo agreed on the need for fresh strategies to increase the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)-base to strengthen its economy.

They commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola for his zeal in raising development, particularly in infrastructure, education, health, agriculture and environment, noting that he was not to blame for workers’ salary arrears, which they blamed on the drastic shortfall in the state’s federal allocation.

Aregbesola had briefly set the tone for the discussion when he urged participants to be frank in their contributions and not turn the forum into a political platform for mudslinging.

He said that what the government required was such input from the public that would provide leeway for new ideas to raise economic development, as the present situation demanded critical assessment and suggestions on how the state’s comatose economy could be revived to bring governance back on course.

His predecessor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, praised his courage in coming plain on the state’s financial situation, noting that the conference was imperative if the present generation must have a decent answer for the future generation on the woeful economic situation. “We must contribute our quota by providing good suggestion that would have considerable impact on how to wriggle out of the present mess,” he said. “We cannot afford to leave the challenge to the state government alone because Osun belongs to all of us.”

The conference, organised by Osun Legislative Forum (OLF) to sensitise indigenes on the state of affairs and enlist their contributions to assist government’s effort to overcome its financial challenges and fulfill its obligations, drew participants from across political divides.

Those present included the first Secretary to the State Government/Head of Service, Inaolaji Aboaba, and former Chief of Staff, Air Chief Marshal Oluseye Petinrin.

Also there were the governorship candidate of Alliance for Democracy, Sunday Fajinmi, Alafe Aluko, traditional rulers, former attorney general and commissioner for justice, Gbadegesin Adedeji, and National Assembly members from the state, among others.

Oyinlola should go and bury his head in shame for cavorting with the same man who removed him through a fraudulent, comprised judicial process. Nigerian politicians are unprincipled.

Oyinlola was a political thief who contributed inmensely to the downfall of the State. He fraudulently ruled Osun State for good seven years now hiding his shame under APC.the man should be flushed out and be marched to Ilesha Penitentiary for stealing peoples’ mandate together with his accomplices like Justice Naron and Kunle Kalejaiye (Logijan Court) Henceforth Oyinlola should not be welcomed where issues concerning Osun State is being discussed.OSUN INDEGENES ARE NOT FOOLS.For forgiveness he should postrate flat in public in OsogboStadium for forgiveness, and that could be the only antidote for his misdeed.

The issue is most of the governors of these states know how troubled there financial standing is but if they tell the truth the phone will stop ringing. I was Privilege to be at one of the investment forum held by then governor Olagunsoye, most of the people at this forum had one thing or the other that they want to sell to the state, it was at this closed door forum that he laid down the financial situation of the state and the cost of running the state
Before u start abusing, I’ve not tendered, begged received, asked for a contract from the state, any other state, or the federal government, I just believed in “Ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country”
Sometimes truth is bitter and some of these governors are very corrupt

Good idea and move. But to move ahead, they should take into consideration that the fact is, as it stands now, Osun State is not viable. What they should do is how to make it viable. Agriculture is the main industry there. They should concentrate on it to bring in revenue. No more of white elephant and lofty dreams. Also, Oyinlola himself should take the blame for further impoverishing the state.
