The National Coordinator of the National Think Thank and Founder of the Institute of Science and Technology, Yenagoa, Prof. Steve Azaiki, has congratulated Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson on his emergence as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.

Azaiki, who is the House of Representatives member-elect for Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency, on behalf of the Institute, people, his constituents, his supporters and admirers across the country, lauded PDP members and friends of the party, especially the governors, for electing Dickson as chairman of the Forum. Dickson is Chairman of the South-South Governors Forum.

In a statement in Abuja, yesterday, he said: “This recognition is coming at a time the PDP and indeed Nigeria need a patriotic, strong, committed and focused leader/leadership. I am particularly happy because Dickson has all the qualities needed to run an all-inclusive PDP that would be for all, not considering political, ethnicity, religious and social status. It is a well-deserved appointment.

“Dickson’s loyalty to our party, people and his deep interest in the Nigerian project and commitment to genuine democratic values, as well as his values and strong positive character and ability to carry along all members of his team are not in doubt. All he will need is the support of his colleagues and we the people.”

Azaiki stressed the need for the Forum to emphasise and insist on restructuring the country and resource control and management, as well as respect for democratic institutions, including the judiciary and the legislature.

He urged the South-South governors to bury their personal differences and speak in one strong voice and support Dickson, now that he would be speaking for the country, saying: “The governors owe us a duty to speak collectively against military occupation of Nembe Basambiri. They must mobilise us to rise against dictatorship and resist any attempt by anybody to use the military against our people.”
