
The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has assented to a bill for the establishment of a Commission for people with disabilities (PWDs) in Yobe State. According to him, the takeoff of the Commission will cater to the welfare of PWDs and allow them to contribute their quotas to the development process in communities.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Buba Garba Lawan, yesterday (Monday), in Damaturu, stated: “The bill for PWDs and the Commission will also ensure a sense of belonging and inclusiveness in the larger society,” noting that in every society, disabilities are potential abilities in the various sectors of the state economy.
According to Buni, the establishment of the commission will ensure effective coordination of the special needs and activities of vulnerable groups.
Relatedly, the governor increased each pensioner’s take-home payment to N32,000 a month. He noted that this has put more smiles on the faces of retirees across the state. Besides the increase in pensions, he said the new minimum wage payments made last December have raised the purchasing power of civil servants.
