A calm and peaceful atmosphere prevails in Kano as residents elect council representatives across the 44 local government areas of the state.
The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has deployed over 12,000 ad hoc staff and sensitive materials for the conduct of the council election.
Though the election was yet to commence as of 10 a.m. in some polling units visited around Tarauni, Municipal, and Dala in the metropolitan centres, the environment remains calm.
Major roads and streets are deserted, in strict compliance with the state government’s movement restriction directive.
Similarly, heavily armed vigilante groups, men of the Hisbah Commission, and hunters have taken over the security of polling units and the KANSIEC headquarters. This follows the withdrawal of police and other security agencies.
