ALGON partners EFCC to promote transparency, accountability in council administration

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogun State chapter, has placed an embargo on sectional and unauthorised meetings within the party by aspirants or their allies ahead of the forthcoming local council elections in the state.

The state’s Chairman of the party, Yemi Sanusi, in a statement, on Tuesday, said that the party has absolute control over how it will prepare for the elections.

According to him, unless and until the party announces or calls for meetings, any person organising or attending meetings concerning the forthcoming council election does so at his peril.

Sanusi warned that the party would not hesitate to punish anyone holding parallel or unauthorised meetings that could undermine the party’s strategy for the elections.

MEANWHILE, in a move to foster transparency and accountability in local council administration, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has partnered with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

ALGON National President, Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, gave the hint when he led a high-powered delegation to a strategic meeting with the EFCC and was received by Director of Fraud Assessment, Usani Francis, and Ezeh, representing the Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

Maifata emphasised the need for collaboration to mitigate infractions hindering service delivery to rural communities, seeking EFCC’s expertise in finance management, accountability and transparency.

However, the EFCC agreed to provide necessary support and training, acknowledging the timeliness of the request.
