The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja yesterday dismissed an appeal and the application for stay of court’s proceedings filed by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu over the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries in Ondo State.

The court ruled that the appeal lacked merit and ordered Akeredolu to put up a defence as one of the respondents in the case at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja presided over by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba.

The first runner-up against the party’s September 3, 2016 governorship primary in the state, Mr. Olusegun Abraham, had sought an order nullifying the emergence of Akeredolu as winner of the primary.

Meanwhile, Abraham has hailed the court ruling , declaring that he would reclaim his mandate.A statement issued by the Director General of Abraham support group, Mr. Kunle Eko Davies, described the ruling as a “quit notice” to the governor and his supporters.

He said the ruling was a clear sign that democracy is being strengthened and more people-oriented, describing the ruling as a victory for all members of APC.locally and in diaspora most especially the ‘disenfranchised 77 per cent’ in the state.

“The events leading from the 2016 Ondo State APC primaries are still fresh in our memories. The unilateral act of our party National Chairman to submit the name of Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu as the candidate of the party contrary to the decision of the party’s Appeal Committee and National Working Committee is also fresh in our memories.

“This is a notice to Mr. Akeredolu and his members to vacate the State House that was acquired illegally,” he said. Abraham implored all members of the ruling party and his supporters in the state to remain calm and be prayerful, saying it is a family issue that would soon be resolved by courts.
