Court Verdict Won’t Stop Peter Obi Movement, POMR Fires Back

***Says “No Judge Can Deregister the Hopes of Millions of Nigerians

The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has reacted defiantly to the Federal High Court judgment reversing the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), declaring that the ruling represents only a temporary legal hurdle and not the end of what it described as a growing national movement for political change.

In a strongly worded statement on Friday, POMR spokesman Idris Zekeri Jnr. insisted that the court decision would neither weaken the support base of the movement nor derail the quest for what he called “a New Nigeria.”

The Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja had reportedly reversed an earlier order that facilitated the registration of the NDC and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw recognition of the party pending further proceedings.

But Zekeri said those celebrating the judgment as a political knockout blow were mistaken.

“What happened today is a legal development, not a political verdict,” he declared.

“It is a procedural setback, not a rejection of the vision, values, and aspirations that have drawn millions of Nigerians to the NDC and to the leadership of Mr. Peter Obi.”

The POMR spokesman disclosed that the movement’s legal team had already commenced a review of the judgment and was preparing immediate appellate action aimed at overturning the decision.

According to him, the court ruling cannot erase the widespread dissatisfaction among Nigerians over economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, corruption, and what he described as deepening governance failures.

In one of the most striking portions of the statement, Zekeri argued that the movement for change transcends the fate of any single political platform.

“The NDC was born out of the yearning of Nigerians for competent, accountable and people-oriented leadership. That yearning did not begin with a certificate of registration and it cannot be extinguished by the withdrawal of one,” he said.

He maintained that millions of Nigerians had invested their hopes not in a political certificate but in the broader objective of national transformation.

Those hopes, he stressed, remain intact.

“The movement remains alive. The mission remains alive. The destination remains unchanged.”

The POMR spokesman urged supporters across the country to remain calm and avoid being discouraged by the latest legal development.

He described the struggle for political reform as one that has historically encountered resistance from entrenched interests and institutional barriers.

“Every effort to challenge an entrenched political order inevitably attracts resistance. What matters is our collective resolve to continue pursuing change through lawful, democratic, and constitutional means,” he stated.

Zekeri further argued that no judicial ruling could extinguish the growing demand among Nigerians for competent leadership and accountable governance.

In what appeared to be a direct message to supporters and political opponents alike, he declared:

“No court ruling can erase the widespread demand for competent leadership.

“No judicial process can deregister the hopes of millions of Nigerians.

“No temporary setback can extinguish the conviction that Nigeria can work.”

The POMR spokesman acknowledged the authority of the judiciary and pledged respect for the rule of law, but insisted that the legal battle over the NDC was far from over.

He expressed confidence that the movement would overcome the setback through constitutional means and vowed that the campaign for national renewal would continue regardless of the outcome of ongoing legal proceedings.

“Today’s judgment may alter the route,” he said.

It cannot alter the destination.

“The march towards a New Nigeria continues, and that march is irreversible.”

The development is expected to trigger fresh political and legal debates over the future of the NDC and the broader realignments taking shape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
