Endorses Abdlrahaman as new PDP Chairman
Former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has declared his support for the suspension of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Umar Damagun, stating that he will leave the party unceremoniously, just as his predecessor, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, did.
Recall that the faction backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, led by the National Secretary, Sam Anyanwu, announced the counter-suspension of the National Chairman, Damagun, and five other members of the National Working Committee.
Reacting to the development on Sunday in Ado Ekiti, Fayose accused Damagun of being incompetent, saying he does not have what it takes to lead the PDP and that he stole that office through manipulation.
“You will recall this is the same way the Ayu crisis started, and this former chairman, Damagun, will go the way of Ayu, I can assure you. His last service to the party was before the suspension.
“He is not going to return to that office as chairman. In the first place, he was not supposed to be the chairman.”
The former governor, who congratulated the factional chairman, said, “We are happy we have a new acting national chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abdurrahman, who emerged yesterday as a result of the confidence reposed in him after the suspension of the former chairman.
“Damagun only represented an interregnum, but manipulated the process to become the chairman and caused so much confusion. He caused so much confusion everywhere, and you realise that the party could not even hold the NEC for a long time.
“Therefore, we want to appeal to the new acting chairman, assuring him of the cooperation of all party members, asking him to reposition the party, asking him to make all necessary corrections in state chapters, and prepare for convention.
“I stand here to tell the whole world that Abdurrahman will be affirmed by the necessary court so that there will be stability because a due process has been done to suspend him (Damagun) from that office. The party needs a leader who can reunite everybody at this time.
“Abdurrahman is now the acting national chairman of our party, in the face of all that is right. And if anybody wants to test it in the court, we will do what is right at the law court,” he said.
Alluding to the crisis in the South West chapter of the party, the former governor said, “They are not obeying their own constitution. They are not following due process. Like in the South West, somebody wants to do, a governor wants to control all the state chapters without allowing the congresses to hold, and you are saying you are looking for peace.”
