•ADC issues free forms to women, disabled persons, assures of party’s success
The son of the Minister of Works, Osborne Nweze Umahi, yesterday, emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ohaozara Local Council Area chairmanship election in the forthcoming Ebonyi State Local Council Election.
Mr Umahi secured 55 votes cast by accredited delegates from the 11 wards of the council in a primary election held at Obiozara Primary School, Uburu.
Declaring the result, the Deputy Chairman of APC in Ebonyi State and Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Alphonsus Nwali, said the exercise was peaceful, transparent and conducted in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
“Total number of accredited voters is 55. Total votes cast, 55. Valid votes, 55. Invalid votes, zero. Therefore, Osborne Nweze Umahi, having scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election,” Nwali announced.
MEANWHILE, the state Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ebonyi State chapter, Dr Jennifer Adibe, yesterday, said that if the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission plays by the rule, ADC will at least win four local council areas and a good number of councillors in the forthcoming local council election scheduled to be held in August this year.
She added that the party has made provisions to promote inclusiveness by waiving nomination fees for women and persons with disabilities, provided they are registered members of the party.
Speaking during an interview with journalists in Abakaliki, the State Chairman of the party, Dr Adibe, said the sale of nomination forms began on January 24, 2026, and will close on February 1, 2026, in line with the party’s electoral timetable, adding that the form for the Chairman is N500,000, and counsellor forms are N150,000.
