Ahead of the Edo State governorship elections, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has thrown his support behind Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the electoral contest.
In a statement on Wednesday, Abubakar criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its alleged failures in governance, citing rising poverty, insecurity, and hardship under its watch as reasons why Nigerians should reject the ruling party.
The ex-PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 general election accused the APC of prioritising power over the welfare of the people.
Abubakar urged Edo State voters to reject the APC and choose Ighodalo, while highlighting his integrity, vision, and commitment to the people’s well-being.
He remarked that a vote for Ighodalo would bring positive change to the state and send a strong message across Nigeria.
Abubakar said: “The people of Edo State have the power to shape their future,” adding, “I implore them to make an informed decision, considering the APC’s track record and Dr. Ighodalo’s promise of prosperity, dignity, and hope.”
Abubakar’s endorsement came as the election campaign in Edo State intensified, with Ighodalo challenging the APC and other party candidates in the polls.
