Parties await list of chairmanship candidates for LG poll
Some aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Eti-Osa Local Council Development Area (LCDA), have petitioned the Lagos Central Senatorial District Reconciliation Committee of the party, asking it to wade into what they termed a premeditated attempt by party leaders to marginalise women in the council.
They also appealed to President Bola Tinubu and his wife, Senator Oluremi, to prevail on the party leaders to restore the vice chairmanship slot initially given to Balogun Rashidat Fadewe – the only female contestant ahead of the July 12 council election in the state.
A party leader from Eti-Osa East Ward C, Jerry Ogunyemi, during a media briefing in Lagos, yesterday, said the mandate already given to Fadewe, who came second in the primary election, was suddenly withdrawn and given to a ‘civil servant,’ who allegedly did not purchase the nomination form.
On his part, another party chieftain, Babatunde Joseph, said if Fadewe emerges as the vice chairman, it will go into the record book as the first female to occupy such a position in the council.
Meanwhile, with the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) deadline for substitution or withdrawal of candidates now officially elapsed, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties are awaiting the release of the list of candidates for the poll.
