Fayemi denies ADC link, affirms loyalty to APC

Former Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, dismissing claims that he co-founded a new African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

A statement issued on Sunday by Ahmad Sajoh, Head of the Fayemi Media Office in Abuja, described the report as unfounded and lacking credible evidence. The claim, allegedly linked to former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, suggested that both men had formed the coalition before inviting others to join.

Sajoh explained that after thorough checks, no video or credible media report was found to substantiate Amaechi making such a statement. “It is possible that Amaechi did not make the statement or was misquoted,” he said, urging the public to approach any political news about Fayemi on social media with caution.

He stressed that Fayemi remains a dedicated APC leader who has consistently shown loyalty to the party at both state and national levels. “Dr Fayemi has, at various public forums, reiterated his commitment to the APC’s progressive ideals and has worked to strengthen the party. He has publicly endorsed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for re-election under the APC, underscoring his allegiance,” Sajoh noted.

He added that Fayemi, a respected politician and thought leader, engages in national conversations across political, religious, and ethnic divides to promote democracy and good governance. However, such engagements, he insisted, do not signal any intention to defect.

“If Dr Fayemi ever decides to leave the APC, he will announce it himself. He will not need anyone to speak on his behalf,” Sajoh said. He attributed the recurring speculation about Fayemi’s political stance to his reduced public appearances, explaining that the former governor has been occupied with his role as a visiting professor at King’s College London and as founder of the Amandla Institute.

According to him, despite his international commitments, Fayemi remains actively involved in APC activities in Ekiti State, regularly attending party leadership meetings and publicly backing the state governor.

Sajoh concluded by stressing that rumours about Fayemi’s political loyalty are unfounded.

“For the umpteenth time, Dr Fayemi is a principal member of the APC and is fully behind the party in the forthcoming Ekiti gubernatorial election,” he said.
